I've moved on...
...to a different domain. Why, what were you thinking? The truth is, I just woke up one day and decided it's time for a change—a metamorphosis, if you will; or, in layman's terms, if Britney can shave her head, then maybe so can I? Nevertheless, it's been a rather handsome 10 years of talking to you, and thank you for putting up with all my moodswings and terrible dad jokes. Fear not! The hormonal imbalance and jokes are more terrible on CUBICLE, see you there.

Here’s a life lesson, when you buy cat food, the cat on the packaging does not come with the purchase. There’s not much of a story, but if I were to start at the beginning, I was sitting in a dark corner of a bar and Mr. Spex, a tall German bloke, slid over to and asked if I’d like to be featured on his website. So I replied OK, but only if it doens’t involve whips, I’m allergic to cow leather. Noo, Mister Spex, the European spectacles emporium, invited me to be a part of their Bloggers say: Wear Sunglasses campaign and offered a choice of a pair that represents the current trend best. I think I fell for keyhole glasses not only because they were ‘in’ but also looked delish on every editorial I’ve seen since March, so I pointed to the Ralph Laurens. Of course, I’d clean forgotten about my Asian non-existent nose bridge and assumed the glasses to suit my round face,  in other words, assumed I had a kitty to feed. Oh the sadness. In reality the glasses sit snug on my cheeks, and one can build a village in the space between the hovering glasses and my actual nose.

Meow :(

Thank you Kit & Jen for the shots.

From the high ceilings of Andel’s loft suites to floating silk grazing the polished catwalk, my Łódź (Wuudge) Fashion Week experience couldn’t translate better into anything other than a light spring breeze. Oskar shepherded us to formidable seats at each show, the collections melted in the mouth, and if you can believe it, every single pair of heels fit the models’ feet. I feel that some international press members have been slightly too critical on the design & organization and too proudly sat on their high horses, and as much as I may be on my own high horse (donkey on platforms, for what authority do I have) making such remark, Łódź you please cut some slack for a young city? Sure, the theatre aspect is still yet to drop anchor, but the essence of fashion shows, the wearables, was undeniably strong. If the event has one anchor it’d be the fact that all designers have accessible ateliers that stock each piece without absurd pricetags dipped in inflated egos (save for a few). Talk about down to earth.

(Some may remember Joanna Klimas from back in October when I visited her Atelier)

The vamp theme is undeniably kitsch on paper, and I’m not going to pretend I’m a huge fan of it – you say vampires and all I can think of is you know what and I’m not even talking about my dearest Voldemort, I’m talking about the shiny chest/literary homicide thing. So why am I sharing this collection by Madoror, I guess I was drawn by the feel of old Slavic savageness that fueled the collection. Grzegorz himself looks a bit like a Celtic warrior and that’s the sort of trait I love in a designer, something that ultimately will translate into a collection and allowing the public to own a piece of him.

Poland Fashion Week (Fashion Philosophy Łódź) Day 3 & 4

It’s high time that we cut some slack for Polish fashion – yes, I’m looking at you too, Poles in the audience. Every single Polish patron we’ve spoken to in Łódź (woodge) have at least once dropped their voices and asked meekly  ‘what do you think of the fashion? it’s not great, right?’, and we were all DUDES COME ON. The organization, the crowd, the talent – I came with rather low expectations for both the city and event based on reviews from Warsaw friends and bloggers (never listening to you guys again) and in the end it turned out to be the most fun I had in a long time. It may be missing world’s top editors and latest designer frills but what Poland has that many other fashion capitals lack is the humbleness in attitude. I think I love you, Łódź.

(Tommy needs to come to Poland and show us how streetstyle snaps are done, haha this is such a wannabe.)

As much as they resemble teleportation rings, these oblong structures are merely creatures of architectural ingenuity – vertical air passageways in the knock-out hotel that is generously hosting us in Łódz. Although, it does seem like there was a fair amount of teleportation involved in getting Jen and Kit over to Poland; 2 months of long-distance skyping and all of a sudden we were sprawled on the floor in a train heading towards Łódz (prounounced Oodge) – the city of Polish Fashion Week. By 3pm we washed up at the doorsteps of Andel’s Hotel after a morning of relentless travel – both Kit and Jen having flown in in the morning; but it wasn’t necessarily the exhaustion that kept us drifting in the corridors instead of swimming straight out into the fashion week crowd. A former-textile mill factory, the space computes to about 7,900m² in lot size, complete with unexposed bricks, loft rooms and art installations adorning the corners of the halls. Do I even have to explain why it’s so appealing? Londoners go mental for conversion units, I used to live in an amazing Victorian school conversion in East London 2 years ago and spotted hopeful new tenants waiting in a U-Haul van whenever I left the house to dispose of garbage. NOT YET OKAY?

The primary reason we’re here is for the fashion week, but honestly speaking, once we’ve dipped our feet in the rooftop pool I don’t think we’ll care much for the outside world. Just saying.
