I've moved on...
...to a different domain. Why, what were you thinking? The truth is, I just woke up one day and decided it's time for a change—a metamorphosis, if you will; or, in layman's terms, if Britney can shave her head, then maybe so can I? Nevertheless, it's been a rather handsome 10 years of talking to you, and thank you for putting up with all my moodswings and terrible dad jokes. Fear not! The hormonal imbalance and jokes are more terrible on CUBICLE, see you there.

Clocking up nearly eight years in this city and having seen the fantastic variety of elements the sky had for offer (and spewed down regardless of preference) across any given season, the only way I’ve found – so far – to tell apart the damn seasons, was the flower market on Columbia Road. Granted, it’s still a pretty shoddy technique, because I’ve seen snow on sunflower petals, rainwater dousing a perfectly fine barbeque… and so on, but it seems to estimate better than anything else. Anything else, namely, being the date we’ve nominated ‘the official first day of Spring’, which I find basically as credible as me declaring: ‘From now on, I will blog diligently’. It’s Christmas-degrees on the ‘first day of Spring’; 2-week blog hiatus because of jetlag… = same unreliable shebang. At the flower market however, the tell-tale signs are in the flowers: the species, colours and sizes. While I won’t dare to boast I know my flowers, the familiar superstars coincide with the season’s traits: Daffodils, daisies and tulips quickly ensued by the sweetness Springtime; Sunflowers and Dahlias with balmy weathers of Summer… and so on. After a couple of weeks of indecisive selection of evergreens and rust-coloured hydrangeas, last week the market was suddenly flooded with yellow Billy balls and multicoloured tulips, so I picked up a bunch in the name of finally teasing the sun out from behind the clouds… now let’s wait and see if the theory sticks, shall we?

And speaking of Spring…

Looking forward to going back on this potion that always takes me back to NY. Which reminds me, the Marc Jacobs Daisy pop-up store over NYFW was apparently a wild success. As I’d imagined, the #MJDaisyChain hashtag currency overpowered the $$, an innovative social media twist that really made this campaign all the more special. Like I said before, I’d have happily tweeted my tails off for a top-up of Daisy or a piece of Langley Fox Hemingway’s Daisy-themed artwork… or a Marc Jacobs Wellington bag (DAMN). Click on the arrows to navigate the slideshow! In collaboration with Marc Jacobs Daisy (conclusion).

Working my way back slowly through this MA-HOOSIVE backlog and realizing that, while I’ve now officially earned the Worst Blogger in History title (I’d like to thank the hobo academy for the consistent support and encouragement…), it really is a pleasure to re-live some bits from the past few months through mere snaps. Bits like, the giddy first 24 hours of travel where you arrive at the airport, clumsily hustling three Samsonite rolling trunks that contain a clever edit – or so you think then- of your belongings, unsoiled and expertly rolled. You’re in some 4-inch heels too, because comfort isn’t particularly an important currency at this stage – well, aren’t you sitting for the next eleven hours? I always travel in heels. At the check-in desk the bags are fared well, and in exchange you receive a slip with promises of grand adventure, and secretly hope the guys at border security don’t mind that you’re smuggling in butterflies in your stomach.

I’m blowing off the layer of dust on the rest of the Seoul photos, so watch this space for more from my January past. Let’s Benjamin Button for a couple of weeks, shall we?

A huge thanks to Samsonite (x Fashiolista) for the adventure – do check out how I packed for Seoul, and a short visual diary on Fashiolista if you want a head start.

Top, Skirt, Shoes & Clutch – Alice & Olivia. Watch – Larsson & Jennings. Bangle – ASOS.

Dear skirt that hangs south of my faux-abs and forgives all sorts of dinner crime… where have you been all my life? I mean really, every meal I’ve ever had – especially in Paris – has been a two-part act of 1) arriving in jittery enthusiasm with dance moves that impress no judge, and 2) waddling out belt unbuckled and unladylike, burping the alphabet in post-meal euphoria. Alas, a maxi skirt, as pictured, means unsightly leg dance concealed within the folds of silky meringue, and the entire table worth of food – minus the plates – safely tucked into the fabric puff under the waist belt, which to curious onlookers I insist is an Alice & Olivia design feature and NOT a food baby (it is). It’s genius, and useful also in making the evening a tad more interesting because guess how many people it takes to pack a semi-drunk woman in a creampuff/ballgown skirt into a taxi?

BTW, this was the stunning Paris flat I was staying with a couple of girlfriends (Team Apartment + Reem) over Paris Fashion Week, and now that I look back I wish I’d taken more photos. Too bad we were too convinced this was our upgraded life now and that we were never going to leave, and this also explains why I kept reaching out for my ballgown get-up…

Thank you Reem for helping with the shots!

This is something I’ve been wishing to share for a long time now, a special project that had Kit (of Style Slicker blog) and I essentially slapping on a piece of duct-tape across our internet ‘mouths’ and work on solidly for the past year or so. Please allow me to present to you, Adorn: 25 Stylish DIY Fashion Projects, a collection of easy-to-follow DIYs by Kit Lee and yours truly, published by Hardie Grant. It all started with two biscuit tins bursting with nick-nacks – studs and chains from the odd DIY projects on our respective blogs, and then an idea that blossomed over brunch. The following ten months with Kit behind the sewing machine, me practising tai-chi over her with the camera; over 30 Litres of tea inhaled, plus buckets of berries from the Dalston market… then chocolate-chip cookies as the weather grew colder. It was a big undertaking, one that thankfully concluded in a product that we’re both very proud of and happy to share with our readers.

The book will be available at all major bookstores and online retailers from early April – a pre-order link will be available soon (through which brownie points and slurpy internet kisses are also received…). See, I told you I’d find a way into your living room somehow, although my initial approach would’ve been through your bedroom window in a black leotard. But I don’t mind this version at all.

Easy breezy festival hair
A quick how-to with F21 hair accessories
Hair curler, heat protection spray, mousse, a teasing comb, a headband, hairspray (optional)

ParkandCube_F21-Festival-Hair_05vParkandCube_F21-Festival-Hair_04

1/
Make sure your hair is completely dry. Spritz your hair all over with heat-protection spray and prepare your hair curler.
2/
Apply a generous amount of mousse to your hair and tousle it evenly through.

ParkandCube_F21-Festival-Hair_07ParkandCube_F21-Festival-Hair_08

3/
Using a teasing comb (or anything similarly pointy – chopsticks?), section your hair and clip to the side.
4/
Start with the inner hair and work outwards by re-clipping sections – hold the curler in place for about 10 seconds and release.

5/
Run your fingers through your hair to loosen up the curls for a more natural effect.
6/
Grab a small section of hair from the side and start braiding, repeat with the other side.

7/
Place the headband – it can either sit an inch into your hair line, or across your forehead.
8/
Weave the braided strand through the headband, and pin at the back to secure.

1/
Brush out any curls and tangles into a neat texture.
2/

ParkandCube_F21-Festival-Hair_17ParkandCube_F21-Festival-Hair_18

3/
Tie your hair tight, pin down any loose strands if going for the neat bun.
4/
Partition the ponytail into three bunches, and starting from root out, back-comb using a fine-tooth teasing comb.

ParkandCube_F21-Festival-Hair_19ParkandCube_F21-Festival-Hair_21

5/
Gather into a loose bun, and fix with hairspray.
6/
Add the decorative scrunchie (at this point you can use anything, a ribbon, a scarf… etc), adjust, and voila!

Hair accessories – Forever21, Nautical cropped sweater – Forever21, white embroidered crop-top – Forever21

So tackle the hard-drive I did, with a pickaxe and a can of WD40, a determined furrow between my brows and toilet plunger at close reach. The sun was on full blaze this weekend as if to mock my task, sorting through what amounted to be 32,000 photos from the last few months. I spend the whole Saturday with my laptop, chasing a triangle of sun that streamed through the curtains. Eventually I came to a full stop as I reached this little gem I’d somehow forgotten about: a heavenly weekend at the Jamie Oliver food festival (The Big feastival) in late August of last year. It left me desperately craving summer – blue skies, a gentle sun, live music and fresh-cooked food under a tent… I had a Forever21 gift-card in my desk drawer, and seeing as how I am now working with an 8-month backlog anyway, decided to go stock up on some hair accessories and share my go-to festival hair for the coming season. I know it my still be a little early, but hey – doesn’t hurt to dream, right?

Hope you all had a wonderful sunny weekend!
